The Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks applications for a 12-month Pre-Faculty Fellow to work with the WSU group on the CMS experiment at Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN). The Fellow will be based at Wayne State, with support for periodic travel to CERN and collaborating institutes. The current WSU area(s) of research specialization are doubly charged Higgs and dark photons, and measurements of top production and multi-boson scattering. Associated areas are the development of gas-electron multiplier detectors for the endcap muon system, and silicon strip detectors for the outer tracker. The Fellow can choose to work on existing WSU projects or other ones in CMS. The fellow chosen for this position will be mentored by Wayne State University CMS faculty Robert Harr and/or Paul Karchin.

This position is one of several under the inaugural Wayne State University Pathway to Faculty Program which includes structured mentoring, resources for the establishment of an independent research program, and the support of a community committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Pathway to Faculty Program offers up to three years of pre-faculty support (research funds, infrastructure, mentorship, teaching experience) to facilitate the development of a sustainable research program. Subject to attainment of expected milestones, the Fellow will transition to the position of tenure-track assistant professor.

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required, and previous postdoctoral experience is desirable, but not required.
