Non-tenure Track Teaching Assistant Professor
Description of Position: The Department of Physics at the University of Nevada, Reno, is seeking applications for a 12-month contract non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor. The position’s primary duties will be to teach courses at the undergraduate level in physics and coordinate the undergraduate teaching laboratory classes. A successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching in large lecture courses and smaller upper-level courses. The expected load per semester is two courses. Additional desired skills include experience in modern teaching techniques developed by physics education research and experience with assessment activities and curriculum mapping. This position develops and coordinates the general physics laboratory program. Furthermore, this position is tasked with maintaining and improving the quality of the undergraduate laboratory classes and classroom demonstrations, teaching and mentoring Graduate Teaching Assistants involved in laboratory instruction.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Physics.
Preferred Qualifications: Interest and training in the field of Physics Education or experimental physics research experience in an area complementing or augmenting the existing research in the department (atmospheric, atomic, high energy density, materials, molecular, plasma physics, and astronomy). Undergraduate lecture class teaching experience.
