Instructional Assistant Professor

The Department of Physics at the University of Houston seeks applicants for an Instructional Assistant Professor position beginning in the fall semester of 2022. Candidates must have a PhD in Physics and excellent communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise supervising introductory physics laboratories. The successful applicant will be expected to teach one course per semester and supervise approximately 120 sections of introductory physics laboratories during the fall, spring, and summer terms. Laboratory supervision includes, but is not limited to, setting up the experiments each week, meeting weekly with TAs, modifying current experiments, developing new ones and preparing them for the laboratory manual, keeping pre-laboratory exercises current, writing quizzes and final examinations, troubleshooting and repairing equipment, updating instructional videos, keeping laboratory information on Blackboard, purchasing new equipment, enrolling students in laboratories, assigning final course grades, and conflict resolution when problems arise. Expertise using the following software is required: PeopleSoft, Ad Astra Scheduler, Pasco Capstone and Science Workshop 750, and Vernier Logger Pro. Instructional Faculty at the University of Houston are not tenure-track but are eligible for promotion. Instructional Faculty are eligible to draw a summer salary from other sources such as research funds should they be available.
