The School of Physics and Applied Physics at Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale, IL (http://physics.siu.edu/) invites applications for a Assistant Professor of Practice position in the field of Astronomy and Planetary Science. The School of Physics and Applied Physics at SIU offers BS and MS in Physics and a PhD in Applied Physics and aspires to add an Astronomy Specialization Track in its undergraduate curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate is expected to: lead the effort in establishing an Astronomy and Planetary Science related specialization; be a dedicated educator with strong commitment to exceptional teaching; contribute positively to the service missions (specifically towards undergraduate recruitment and retention) of the School, the college, and the university.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD at the time of application in Astronomy and Planetary Science or related field with one or more years of teaching experience at the university level. Applicants must demonstrate interest and potential to teach undergraduate and graduate classes across the curriculum.
Preferred Qualifications:
The school values engaging undergraduate students in a variety of hands on learning experiences through research projects, and as such it is a plus factor for candidates to show interest and promise for engaging students in research related special projects.
