In this role, you will participate in research on development of state of the art particle accelerators and beam instrumentation in the Accelerator Technology & Applied Physics (ATAP) Division as part of the Berkeley Accelerator Controls and Instrumentation (BACI) program. The Project Scientist will focus on contributing to the development of new controls and instrumentation that increasingly drive the capability of complex accelerator systems and on experiments using the HiRES facility (a state of the art photoinjector, linac, and beamline), while collaborating across the Division.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct research to develop particle accelerator diagnostics and controls, including AI/ML methods.
  • Participate in the design, operation and analysis of experimental campaigns using the HiRES beamline including photocathode, ultrafast electron diffraction (UED), and advanced controls/diagnostics.
  • Participate in research involving photocathode, UED, and related accelerator science.
