Position Summary: The School of Physics and Applied Physics at Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale, IL (http://physics.siu.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position
in the field of Theoretical Quantum Computation/Quantum Information Science. The School offers BS and MS in Physics and a Ph. D. in Applied Physics. The School has strong research programs in experimental, theoretical, computational and applied physics, most of which are established through a variety of federal research grants obtained by the faculty. Some of our faculties have won National Science Foundation CAREER awards, and various other prestigious awards. Collectively, faculty have multiple global research collaborations and are recognized internationally for their research work. The educational mission of the school is dedicated towards providing valuable learning experiences for its students as such faculty work very closely with students inside and outside the class room.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate is expected to: establish a unique, externally funded research program with key focus of engaging undergraduate and graduate students in cutting edge research and scholarly activities; be a dedicated educator with strong commitment to exceptional teaching; contribute positively to the service missions of the school, the college, and the university. The selected candidate is also expected to contribute significantly in establishing a Quantum Information Specialization Track in collaboration with other faculty members in the unit. Minimum Qualifications: PhD (at time of application) in Physics/Applied Physics or related field, with focus in quantum computing and/or quantum information. Applicants must show strong evidence of scholarly activities through substantial publications in high impact journals, and must show interest and potential to teach graduate and undergraduate classes across the curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a concentration in quantum error prevention, simulating quantum systems with quantum systems and/or a closely related field. The School values interdisciplinary research and as such it is a plus factor for candidates to show interest and promise for building and sustaining long term research collaboration across several disciplines. Prior experience with recruitment and retention efforts, and one or more years of post-doctoral experience are plus factors.
