Observatory Education Scientist

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Western Kentucky University invites applications for the position of Observatory Education Scientist. Minimum qualifications include a MS in Physics, Astronomy or a related field. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in ground based astronomical observatory operations and automation, maintenance and use of related software and hardware, and public outreach/K-16 education utilizing hands on and remote observatories. They will be expected to take a leading role and actively participate in observatory operations, maintenance and upgrades, observatory E/PO activities and research activities utilizing the 12.5 in on-campus observatory, the 0.7m Bell Observatory and the 1.3m Robotically Controlled Telescope (RCT) at Kitt Peak National Observatory. Teaching and engaging undergraduate students in research activities will be strongly encouraged and supported. Further details about the department can be found at http://www.wku.edu/physics.
