Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics

Amherst College’s Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a full-time visiting assistant professor of physics position. The one-year appointment will start July 1, 2022. Given Amherst’s commitment to cultivating a challenging and inclusive educational environment, we seek candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students representing a broad range of classes, genders, races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual identities, and religions. A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required. The department is looking for a person with broad intellectual interests who is committed to teaching and working with undergraduates at a liberal-arts college. The successful candidate’s specific courses will be determined in consultation with the department. The faculty in the department is active in research in laser and atomic physics, condensed-matter physics, high-energy physics, biophysics, and observations of exoplanets. There is a broader research community in the area because of Amherst College’s proximity to the University of Massachusetts, as well as Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire Colleges.

Candidates are asked to submit an application electronically to http://apply.interfolio.com/103824. Applications should include a letter of application; current curriculum vitae, including a list of publications; teaching statement, including plans for teaching and mentoring a diverse student body; and contact information for three recommenders.
