Wesleyan University’s Department of Physics invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics beginning September 1, 2022, for the 2022-2023 academic year. A background in physics education research or experience with innovative teaching methods will be particularly welcome. The successful candidate will teach five course credits over the academic year, including co-teaching one section each semester of non-calculus introductory physics and a combination of higher-level undergraduate or graduate courses accommodating the candidate’s experience to the Department’s needs. Substantial pedagogic and mentoring resources will be available, making this an excellent opportunity for career development. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college that highly values both scholarship and teaching, has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body, and offers competitive salaries and benefits.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as an Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as an Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. in Physics or related field within one year of hire.
A complete application includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae containing a summary of teaching experience, and a brief statement of teaching interests. In the cover letter, applicants should describe how they will embrace the college’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community, as well as their experience working with individuals from historically marginalized or under-served groups. You will also be asked to provide the email addresses of three referees from whom we will obtain confidential letters of recommendation.
Applications completed by April 15, 2022 will receive full consideration. Please contact Dana Gordon-Gannuscio at dgordongannu@wesleyan.edu email if you have questions about the application process. Visa sponsorship is not normally available.
