Postdoctoral Associate
The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites applications for a postdoctoral associate to conduct research with Prof. Anthony Gonzalez on topics related to galaxy clusters, galaxy evolution, and intracluster light. The successful applicant will be expected to work with HST data for the Frontier Field clusters as part of a study of intracluster light, and to conduct research on galaxy evolution in high-redshift clusters discovered as part of an ongoing survey. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022, with some flexibility.
The position is renewable annually for up to three years based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or a related field is required prior to the start date. A competitive salary will be provided, and the position includes a benefits package.
The successful candidate will have access to the newly built HiPerGator research computing cluster, and will be able to apply for time on the 10.4m GTC. The University of Florida has active research groups in galaxy formation and evolution, ISM physics, star formation, stellar astronomy, extrasolar planets, theoretical astrophysics and instrumentation, with vibrant groups both in the Department of Astronomy and Department of Physics. In addition, they will have access to collaborative opportunities campus-wide via the newly established Informatics Institute at the University of Florida, and artificial intelligence initiative (ai.ufl.edu).
