Professorial Lecturer in Physics

The Department of Physics in the College of Arts & Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment as the Assistant Director of Physics Teaching Laboratories for Academic Year 2021-2022, starting on August 23, 2021. The appointment is a 9-month term position at the rank of Professional Lecturer during the academic year, with potential for additional teaching and compensation during the summer. We anticipate that the position will be renewable, contingent on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Physics, Physics Education, or a closely related field. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching physics laboratory sections, working with lecture-course instructors to develop and implement laboratory teaching curriculum, and assisting in physics demonstrations for physics and astronomy lecture courses. This position also offers opportunities to teach traditional physics course, engage in research projects, or grow department initiatives in space sciences, science policy, data sciences, and biophysics. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.
